Education Minister announces holidays of Eid Al Adha and national day
Abu Dhabi - Government and private schools as well as teaching, administrative and technical staff will observe the Eid Al Adha holiday and the UAE's 38th national day from the 9th of the Hijri month of Zu al Haja 1430 up to the 2nd and 3rd of December, according to a ministerial resolution issued by H.E Humaid Al Qattami, Minister of Education.
WAM 10 November 2009:
Astronomically: Friday, November 27th will be the first day of Eid al-Adha
WAM Abu Dhabi, - November 27 will be the first day of Eid Al Adha, according to the Islamic Crescent's Observation Project (ICOP) astronomical calculations.
The ICOP also predicted that November 18th will be the first day of Dhul Hijja Mohammed Shuwkat, Chairman of ICOP, said ''Muslims will be looking for the moon on Tuesday evening, Nov. 17.
'He predicted that Wednesday will be the first of the Hijri month in most Islamic countries.
If the first day of Dhul Haja is 18, 19, or 20 November 2009, that would mean Eid Ul Adha starts on 27, 28, or 29 November, so DFM and ADX will be closed from Friday 27 November 2009.
If the first day of Dul Hajah is 17 November 2009 then Eid Al Ahda would start on Thursday 26 November 2009 so UAE markets would be closed from Wednesday.
I think ...
The reopen date shouldn't be dependent on moon sightings because UAE National Day holiday dates are fixed on 02 and 03 December 2009? _________________ UAE IPO list | posting guidelines
The markets would be closed effective 26th Nov 2009 to 29th Nov,2009 on account of Eid Al Adha. Thereafter the markets would be closed from 2nd to 5th December and would re open on 6th December after the National day Holidays. This would leave markets working on 30th November and 1st December,2009. Enjoy the Holidays!

> GPIC: I don't know if DFM and ADX follow private or public holiday announcements. Have just found this in the email box from Dubai Financial Market (DFM) so I guess these are the DFM Eid Al Adha holiday dates, and one would assume apply to the Abu Dhabi market (ADX) also:

Didnt realise it was 2 holidays, thought it was just one split into different days.
My guess is that is will run like Ramadan, business as usual...!
I remember saying that this year would different during Ramadan because of what we were experiencing globally. I think this holiday will just be the same.
Investors will be afraid of dumping the stock before the holiday, only to find that they have to buy it back at higher price on the 6th!
I think i’ll hold my banking stock and enjoy the beach!
Just to confirm - from DFM website this morning. Eid Mubarak everyone .
